What are oats? A note on its usage?
It is a grass of the avena family, of which the variety ‘sativa’ is grown for its edible seeds. These seeds are known as oats, which are very rich in fibre. Besides being fed to cattle for feed and fodder, oats occupy a prime place on health food shelves.
We have commercially available oatmeal, rolled oats, white oats, and oat flour. Dishes like porridge, cookies, puries, breads, nutribars, etc. are very popular in incorporating oats in some form or other.
Whenever I bake cake in microwave it sometimes comes out very dry. Reason?
A general rule is to allow batter to be a shade thinner, and keep the cake underdone a little bit, so that in the standing time it gets fully done and does not overly dry up. If already dry, make it soft on cooling, by sprinkling some sugar water all over it. If the cake turns sticky, then it generally means there is more condensed milk than required. While baking in microwave oven, reduce the condensed milk quantity by 2 tbsp.
  What is marmalade?
